The Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center-San Antonio is the largest trainer of physicians in South Texas, many of whom remain in San Antonio and the region to practice medicine. With full accreditation by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) the school annually educates more than 950 residents and fellows representing over 85 specialties and are steadfastly committed to training the next generation of outstanding physicians. Our major clinical training partners are University Health System, South Texas Veteran’s Health Care System (Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital), Brooke Army Medical Center, and the UT Health San Antonio Mays Cancer Center.
We are national leaders in GME, invited to engage with the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in multiple ways to include Physician Well-being Symposiums, Strategic Scenario Planning, many of our Program Directors serve on Residency Review Committees and routinely are invited to present seminars at the Annual Educational Conference. Beyond accreditation, our major initiatives center around wellness, educational innovation, health systems science, and professional development.
